One thing I've realized over my (many) beauty editor days: frizz happens, no matter the season or hair type. I was relieved to find out that I'm not alone: Practically all — 95%, to be exact — women in Good Housekeeping's tester panel reported that frizz was an issue for them.
Though many people find frizz the worst during humid summer days, there is more to blame than just the weather. "It can be caused by many factors, including hair dryness or split ends," says celebrity hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos. Frizz can also come as a result of "an open cuticle due to chemical services, over-cleansing your hair, color or heat damage," adds Tiffanie Richards, Master Colorist and Stylist at Louise O'Conner Salon.
Don't sweat it — we are here to help you fight frizz and win. The Good Housekeeping Institute Beauty Lab tests a variety of anti-frizz hair products both in the Lab using scientific instruments to gauge their frizz-fighting abilities and with consumer testers, who report their feedback on ease of use, product attributes and effects on hair after application. In the most recent test, our scientists tallied a total of 5,666 Lab frizz measurements and consumer tester responses to help identify the top formulas, including shampoos, oils and more.
