When designing my new Brooklyn apartment, storage was my number-one priority. My dingy, cheap-looking dressers that I poorly assembled myself were no longer cutting it. When I was ready to upgrade my setup, the Thuma dresser kept coming up again and again in my search.

I already have the Thuma Classic bed frame which I love, so I was hopeful that the dresser would be equally stylish and luxurious — and I was right. After owning this dresser for a year, I can report that it's been a storage game-changer in my home, plus it's gorgeous to look at.

Delivery and assembly

The dresser ships for free and each drawer arrives fully assembled in its own box. Bringing these boxes up to my third-floor walk-up was not an easy task — each one required two people to carry up the stairs because they weigh either 65 or 52 pounds each depending on if the top is included. Once we got the boxes upstairs, I started unboxing each one. These massive boxes include tons of packaging to keep them protected during transit. It took a while to unwrap each box and it created mounds of cardboard at the end (which took a while to bring downstairs). It took me over an hour to unbox all the boxes.

To assemble, I simply stacked each drawer on top of each other and secured them together with one large included screw that didn't need a screwdriver to secure. It couldn't have been easier! I was amazed at how luxe it looked right out of the box — no confusing instruction manual needed. Assembly took less than 15 minutes!

The brand does offer premium delivery, which includes "delivery to your room of choice, assembly and package removal." It costs an additional $295 and isn't available in all areas. I would absolutely recommend opting for this service if you order a larger configuration because the boxes are heavy to carry and the trash at the end can be overwhelming.

Performance

I immediately started filling the drawers with my clothes, extra linens and accessories. The drawers are on the narrow side, so I couldn't fit as much in each drawer as with my previous dresser. It was easy to open and close the soft-close drawers and they never got stuck or jammed (a huge headache with my old dressers!).

Because of the modular design, this dresser can grow with me. I chose the 3x3 configuration — three sets of three-drawer units placed next to each other horizontally — but I can rearrange the pieces to use as nightstands or a taller dresser (note that you cannot stack more than five drawers vertically). This configuration fits perfectly in my living room as a large storage piece.

Quality

I especially appreciate the premium construction and quality materials of this dresser. I chose the Walnut finish, which has a beautiful sheen to it. It feels like an heirloom piece that I'll have for many, many years. Whenever anyone visits my home, they immediately compliment this dresser, highlighting the chic, sleek look with a mid-century nod. Because it is made with upcycled wood, it may include natural imperfections, but I didn't notice this with my piece.

I have had this dresser for over a year and it still looks just as good as when I got it!

Why I love it

Instantly elevating my space with its minimalist design, the dresser's quality construction has held up well to everyday use. When it arrived, I liked that the drawers were fully assembled for the easiest assembly ever. The drawers are easy to open and close while avoiding jams (my old dresser was always jamming). I appreciate its modular design because I can use it in different spaces more easily.

Important to know

Because each drawer arrives assembled, the boxes are very heavy. I would recommend having someone there to help you carry the boxes up and also bring down the cardboard after unboxing if you don't opt for premium delivery. The Thuma dresser is a luxury item and is pricey. For my goal of upgrading my space, this dresser was worth the investment, but it may not be within your budget.

Is the Thuma Dresser worth buying?

Yes! If you are comfortable with the higher price tag, I think the Thuma dresser is a worthwhile buy. It is modular to work in different spaces, uses premium materials and has a stylish, mid-century look that elevates any room.
