Why we're all going to be wearing skinny trainers this spring

A selection of chic trainers from ballerina styles to revitalised retro classics

By

Want to move on, but not too much? The update to the all-white classic sneaker style is here. Give yourself a 2025 footwear update with the latest trainer style everyone can’t stop talking about: the ballerina trainer – aptly named due to its snug, narrow fit and pointed round toe, just like ballet shoes.

The right pair of trainers is the perfect solution when you want to look smart and on-trend, while also giving your feet a rest from heels or loafers. Best of all, there are now so many different colours and textures to choose from, you don’t need to restrict yourself to classic white trainers.

Suede, stripes and bold colours are giving our wardrobes a much-needed punch of colour that, with precise styling, can work with anything in your wardrobe – whether you’re making your leather skirt more casual or heading out for a weekend stroll in your favourite jeans and trench coat.

This style has caused quite the stir in our office. So much loved are they by the GH team that Editor-in-Chief Jane Bruton has already bought a pair of Adidas Tokyos. The Tokyos are a revival of a retro style, another trend we’re seeing emerging through the latest iteration of vintage Puma Speedcat. Alongside the boho S/S 25 trend and suede pieces hitting the streets, it seems that retro is really in.

High-street brands, such as H&M and Boden, are keeping up with the sneaker-heads by providing their own take on the ballerina trainer – at affordable price points, too. Make a statement and style them with other bold shades, such as silver, this summer. Or why not upgrade your off-duty look with a pair of bright blue trainers from Victoria Berlin?

Luckily, 2025 is an exciting year for trainers, and we’ve found 13 of the coolest fashion trainers available to shop now. Here’s a round-up of ones we recommend.
