From Brat Pack to fashion icon – the style evolution of Demi Moore

The Oscar buzz may have gone, but Demi’s shine is brighter than ever

By Jodie Anderson and

It’s official: Demi Moore is having her moment.

After 45 years in the industry, her performance as Elisabeth Sparkle in The Substance made her the awards season’s standout star. It began at the Golden Globes, when the 62-year-old picked up her first-ever acting award (yes, first-ever) for Best Actress. Cue applause, tears and whispers of, ‘It’s about time.’ At Cannes, she dazzled in liquid gold Schiaparelli and followed it up with custom metallic Armani Privé gowns at both the Golden Globes and Academy Awards. Intentional or not (it is intentional), her golden streak has made sure she’s unforgettable on every red carpet.

Over her career, Demi has shown us every possible side of herself. She found global fame in St Elmo’s Fire (1985) as Jules, the quintessential 80s girl. She sizzled as Erin Grant in Striptease, bringing grit to a single mother turned stripper, and gave us a powerful performance (and a shaved head) in GI Jane.

Off-screen, she’s no less iconic. Remember her Vanity Fair cover in 1991, where she redefined the conversation by baring her baby bump? Over the decades, she’s transformed from Brat Pack poster girl to minimalist noughties mum to glamorous wife (Bruce Willis, Ashton Kutcher) and now a bona fide fashion icon.

In her seventh decade, Demi is showing us that style – and talent – only improve with age. And although the Oscars buzz may have died down, Demi’s shine hasn’t. As she cover stars in People magazine’s ‘World’s Most Beautiful’ issue, Hollywood is finally catching up with what we’ve known all along: it’s Demi’s time.

The look led to her featuring on a Worst Dressed List but she designed the outfit herself and proves that she wears what excites her, not what’s on trend. We think it’s iconic.
