The glossy out-out sandals to make every night golden – and they’re only £60 from Monsoon
Make gold sandals your spring superpower
Although I lean to tailored trousers with a chic top for day or night, I’ve always been partial to a jazzy shoe. There’s my pink glitter pair of Wizard Of Oz shoes by Saint Laurent from 2012, which look as sparkly as the day I bought them. My iridescent green leather Bowie boots by Camilla Elphick, with their fiesty gold arrow shooting up the heel, are my go-to rocket boosters for a night out. For me, these shoes don’t just complete a look – they start a party.
Why am I telling you all this? The other night, halfway up a stairwell in a busy restaurant, I caught sight of a glint of gold ahead belonging to a glorious pair of block-heeled sandals with a camp Hollywood starlet bow perched on the front. The woman wearing them was wearing chic yet decidedly low-key barrel jeans and a grey sweatshirt with them, yet she looked unmistakably, unapologetically out-out. Of course, I had to ask where they were from – turns out they are by Monsoon, cost £60 and, in a twist of fate, are in the shops now.
Just goes to show how a gold shoe can transform an outfit from blah to brilliant – and we at Good Housekeeping are totally here for that. We all need a ‘one thing that changes everything’ piece to lift our days, and a great gold sandal says glamour – but also fun, confidence and, above all, impromptu conversations with strangers. Whether you wear them with jeans or a summer dress, a gold sandal definitively changes the temperature of a whole outfit – and your mood, too – and, really, it doesn’t get better than that.
Take this as a reminder to dig out your gold sandals from your summer style arsenal and dust them off. And if, like me, there is a gold-sandal-shaped hole in your line-up, consider these beauties to fill the gap.
