You may have heard of the non-alcoholic sensation that is Botivo, but incase you haven't - a little back story...
Botivo says they are 'on a mission to make a great drink, that does not live in opposition to alcohol, but in a category of its own'. And they have very much achieved this. Their original aperitivo is bitter, sharp and very herbaceous - unlike anything else we have ever tried. It tastes like you're drinking your next favourite drink, but without any of the alcohol.
So, when we heard that they were bringing out a new, limited-addition aperitivo with Ottolenghi, we HAD to try it. Ottolenghi himself says, 'I first tried Botivo at a party. It only took one sip! That perfect bitter seed aperitivo' - the deal was sealed. With his addition of black lime, pomegranate molasses, cardamom and rose flavours, it's the Middle Eastern twist we never knew we needed. Plus, the bottle design, with its instantly recognisable yellow wax top, is a great addition to any bar cart.
'It still has its signature bitterness, but with a hint of floral from the rose, tanginess from the black lime and warmth from the cardamom. Do I prefer it to the original?! Maybe! Didn't think that was possible...' say our Senior Cookery Writer, Grace.
Simply mix with soda water, a wedge of lime/orange and ice for an alternative sundowner, and trust us, you'll be reaching for another before no time.
If you still want to drink something stronger, then you can add it to a gin and tonic or vodka and tonic, for a botanical boost.
