Welcome, Housekeepers! It’s about time we properly introduced ourselves.
Here at Good Housekeeping, ever since we published our very first issue of the magazine in March 1922 (for one shilling!), we’ve stayed true to our founding belief: there should be no drudgery in the home.
From GHI Approved product reviews straight out of our state-of-the-art testing facility to our tasty Triple Tested recipes and editorial advice on everything from decluttering to the jeans that are genuinely comfortable, we love to share our insider tips, opinions and best buys with you.
Because good advice is part of the fabric of families and friendships. In a complex world, trusted information – a brilliant tip, a word of caution, an unmissable bargain – is precious. Good Housekeeping’s unrivalled trust is why our content is shared up and down the generations by millions of women every month.
We want you to feel like part of the GH family, so keep scrolling to meet all the editors, writers, testers, sellers and designers behind the brand, learn more about our editorial policies and find out how to get in touch with us (because we love to chat).
The Good Housekeeping Institute
For 100 years, the Good Housekeeping Institute has been the beating heart of our brand. Like an unflappable, meticulously well-prepared friend, the GHI is trusted by millions of people every year to keep them from the crushing disappointment of a bad purchasing decision, whether they need help choosing the best air fryer for easy family meals or are looking for a delicious, full-bodied red wine for their next dinner party.
The GHI in numbers
✔️ 3,600 is the total number of products tested in 2024.
✔️ 255 is how many mince pies our tasting panel ate during our 2024 Christmas Taste Test (the biggest ever!)
✔️ 6,000 is the number of at-home testers who helped us put products through their paces in 2024.
✔️ 52 is how many times we drop each suitcase from a set height as part of our luggage durability tests.
✔️ 16 is how many weeks we spent reviewing the CurrentBody LED Hair Growth Helmet – our longest test to date.
The GHI first opened its doors in 1924 at 49 Wellington Street in London. The building housed a modern kitchen and bathroom, laundry and research laboratories, offices and a terrace for photography.
Fast forward a whole century and we’ve moved to our state-of-the-art lab in West London. We’ve grown a little bit since then, too. We now have two dedicated test kitchens, a vast laundry room with rows of washing machines, a floor cleaning room, a tasting room, a shower room (where we put suitcases in the shower to see how waterproof they are), a beauty lab filled with specialist kit, a video studio and a gym on site.
That’s where our expert team – made up of scientists, engineers, food developers, analysts, editors and writers – put everything through rigorous testing (and we mean rigorous, hence the suitcases in the shower), so you can shop with confidence.
Why trust us?
Accuracy
Accuracy is incredibly important to us, whether it’s testing our recipes three times to ensure they’ll always work in your kitchen, or the rigorous testing we put into all our product recommendations. Where appropriate, we also consult with qualified experts – from GPs and dermatologists to interior and fashion experts – for all their insights and ideas.
Affiliate disclosure
We participate in various affiliate marketing programmes, so we may get paid commissions on products purchased through our links to retailer sites. However, every product featured on our site is independently researched, rigorously tested, or editor approved. We only recommend products we believe in and anything featured on our site is always driven by editorial and product-testing standards, not by affiliate deals or advertising relationships.
Editorial independence
Though Good Housekeeping is supported in part by advertising, our content is produced independently and held to rigorous standards of quality, accuracy and integrity. Content created in partnership with advertisers is always clearly marked as such.
GHI endorsements
We allow brands to purchase the GHI Approved and GHI Taste Approved logos, but only after their product has passed our rigorous tests (not all do!). Brands have no say in how we assess products, as all testing is completed independently from commercial and editorial teams. Brands whose products fail are not able to purchase our endorsement.
