The housewarming gifts your children will actually want to receive
From statement glassware to Instagram-famous skillets.

Your children moving into a new home is always a cause for celebration, whether they’re buying their first flat or upgrading to a bigger place. Giving them a housewarming gift is a thoughtful gesture, but it can be tough to pinpoint exactly what to buy.
With that in mind, we’ve curated the Good Housekeeping edit of our favourite housewarming gifts that your children will cherish for years to come.
How to choose a housewarming gift
When choosing a present, you really have two choices: some beautiful home decorations or a useful essential. Gifting decor (think doormats, wall art and dried flowers) will help to make their new house a home, adding character, colour and texture. But always remember to consider their personal style, and if you’re uncertain, ask!
If you really don’t feel confident about your recipient's taste, think about function instead; moving into a new home can be stressful, and having the essentials, such as a vacuum cleaner and kitchen utensils to hand from the get-go can make life easier.
It’s often best to check whether they’ve already got certain items — we’re sure your giftee will appreciate new dinnerware and drinking glasses but if they’ve already got enough, it could end up gathering dust in storage (or the charity shop).
It’s also worth considering what they’re not likely to prioritise when picking new homeware items. Your children may not want to spend their money on non-essential items, such as luxury candles and diffusers, so treating them to something you know they wouldn’t purchase for themselves is a thoughtful idea.
