Our favourite pre-planted hanging baskets for any garden
Add a touch of colour to your outdoor space🌼
Pre-planted hanging baskets are a brilliant addition to any garden. Not only do they add some instant cheer to your outdoors, but minimal planting power is required.
As plant guru, Peter Freeman from Dobies explains: “Hanging baskets add another dimension to your outside space, bringing fabulous flowers up to eye-level. They’re a great space-saving solution if you’re short on floor space and perfect to add a warm welcome to your front door.” But it’s not just bedding plants you can hang in your baskets. “They are brilliant for bulbs and an excellent way to grow strawberries and tumbling tomatoes,” Peter adds. “Their raised growing position also helps prevent pests from attacking your beautiful blooms or delicious crops.”
When it comes to picking your pre-planted hanging baskets, there are, however, a few things to consider. For example, what is the best time to hang them? What hues are on trend? And what should you do if your outside space is more shady than sunny? “Hanging baskets can offer spring, summer, autumn or winter colour,” Peter tells us. “It just depends on which plants you choose to grow. No sun? No problem. Grow fabulous foliage plants such as trailing ivy instead.”
Similar to 2022, this year will be all about bright colours, too. “The return of colour is the defining interior trend over the past couple of years, and it is now transferring to the outside as white spaces are quickly disappearing with the use of vibrant colours known to have positive effects on well-being and motivation,” Gardenesque Director, Ali Yang-Wooldridge, says. “Sunny shades like yellow and orange will give outdoor spaces positive energy, whilst reds, purples and magenta pinks will bring optimism, warmth, growth, and excitement to gardeners, following on from the pandemic.”
Another brilliant thing about pre-planted hanging baskets is that you don’t have to have acres (and acres) of space to reap the rewards they can bring. Isabelle Palmer, founder of The Balcony Gardener explains: “Pre planted hanging baskets are a really great way to introduce an abundance of flowers. Introducing pre-planted hanging baskets in small spaces means they can be hung at different heights to give interest and also used to screen unwanted views.” To make these garden additions work in compact spaces, Isabelle recommends sticking to one single colourway. “This way it won't overpower the space with busy colour schemes,” she says. “It will also give a more modern feel.”
So, if you’re ready to introduce some pre-planted hanging baskets in your outside space, ramble this way. We’ve dug deep to find the best pre-planted hanging baskets which will soon become your best bud.
