Next week’s Chelsea Flower Show will star an exciting immersive installation which has been designed to offer an insight into the life of bees and their unique perspective of the world.

The event’s headline sponsor, The Newt, has teamed up with leading beekeepers and gardeners to create the beehive installation. Visitors of the show will be able to enter the giant beehive to discover a multi-sensory honeycomb experience, which reveals some of the fascinating secrets behind bees’ lives and the important role they play in our ecosystem.

“The entire feature will be an immersive adventure, with visitors interacting and learning through touch, smell and sound,” explained The Newt, as part of a release.

The hive will also be surrounded by a specially selected planting of nectar-rich flowers, as the installation will sit in the centre of an apiary garden which has been created by Stephen Herrington, who is the Head Gardener at The Newt in Somerset.

The purpose of the special installation, according to the Chelsea sponsor, is to, “raise awareness of the plight of the humble bees” as, “decades of widespread chemical use and a shortage of food [has put] bees at huge risk across the UK.”.

The Chelsea Flower Show returns next week and is open to the public from Tuesday 23 May. You can still get some last minute Chelsea Flower Show tickets, or you can watch Chelsea on TV from the comfort of your own home, with daily coverage from the BBC.
