The best concealers, expert tested by the Good Housekeeping Institute
From Touche Éclat to Kosas, these are the top concealers for your makeup kit

The best concealers help to brighten dark circles, even out skin tone and create a more flawless-looking finish. They can also reduce the appearance of dark spots, redness, pores and blemishes.
To find the best for your makeup bag, the Good Housekeeping Institute put some of the most iconic concealers, plus some shiny new formulations, to our beauty panel to try.
Scroll on for their full reviews but these are the ones that impressed them the most:

Do you apply concealer before or after foundation?
We recommend applying the best illuminating primer, then foundation (if you use it), followed by concealer. We’ve tested a selection of formats, from thick creams to wand applicators, to ensure there’s something for everyone.
You can apply with the wand (if there is one) or with fingers, while a brush or damp sponge can help blend into the skin for a streak-free finish.
What coverage should I go for?
When we talk about coverage, we’re referring to the level of opacity (in other words, how much concealing power a product has). If you prefer a natural, no-makeup look and have minimal areas of concern, light to medium coverage should suffice.
For dark spots or blemishes, strong coverage with good staying power is better. Dry skin will benefit from creamy, blendable textures, while a matte finish will help to reduce shine for those with oily skin.
How do I know my concealer shade?
Whatever your skin tone, there has never been such a wide choice of colours available (although it could always be better). Thanks to the new era of AI shade-matching tools, products can also be made bespoke for your skin tone.
Shades are often broken down into warm, cool or neutral undertones. To find your undertone, take a look at the veins in your arms. Do they appear purpley-blue? Chances are, you have a cooler undertone, while those with more of a green appearance will be warmer. If you don’t notice them at all, you’ll probably find you have a neutral undertone.
When targeting the under-eye area, or using concealer for highlighting purposes, you can afford to go a shade or two lighter. If you’re using it to contour, a shade darker works well. For hiding blemishes and red spots, a concealer matching your natural skin colour works best.
How we test concealers
We tried market-leading brands of concealers with the help of 160 of our at-home testers, asking them to provide detailed feedback. Each panellist assessed the ease of application, blend-ability, wear time, longevity and the overall performance of the product.
In the Good Housekeeping Institute product reviews lab, we used our spectrophotometer to assess colour immediately after application and six hours later, taking three separate readings for each concealer to find an average score.
