Merit is the minimalist makeup brand all our beauty editors are obsessed with
‘If I could only use one makeup brand for the rest of my life, this would be it’

Our beauty obsession of the moment? Introducing Merit, America’s most minimalist beauty export, which launched in the UK last year and has made quite the stir among industry insiders.
These days, many of us want more for our money when it comes to beauty. We’re seeing a trend towards multitasking, easy-to-use makeup that’s full of nourishing skincare ingredients. Less is more, so the products we do invest in need to be high-performing.
Ticking all those boxes, Merit’s approach is one of minimalist, faff-free beauty, with a streamlined range of products – think quick contour sticks and compact, dome-like blush pots that forgo the need for a brush.
Ready to shop straight away? These are the products our editors swear by, but keep reading to find out why we’ve fallen for this beauty favourite.
The brand was launched in the US in 2021 by beauty and fashion entrepreneur Katherine Power, who also founded Versed Skincare, co-founded fashion site Who What Wear, and set up wine and spirits company Avaline with little-known actress Cameron Diaz. So, she knows a thing or two about building a successful business, but Merit really strikes the right note in what feels like an effortless way. It’s all about taking things back to basics – with the basics done extremely well.
If you’re a fan of the ‘no-makeup makeup’ look that embraces your real skin, then this is one to have on your radar. Bella Hadid and Hailey Bieber are both fans, as are Diaz and Sarah Jessica Parker. The brand is quick to point out the products have been developed to suit ‘all skin types, from younger to older and for sensitive skin types too, which is why the colour palette is very wearable and each product is super easy to apply’.
Every product in the line is vegan, cruelty-free and Leaping Bunny-certified, and the hybrid skincare/makeup formulas are created with skin-loving ingredients, such as squalane (plant-based), vitamin B5, fatty acids and antioxidants. Plus, did we mention that they come in some of the chicest packaging on the market? Think gold casing and sleek minimalist neutrals.
So, which Merit products deserve a spot in your routine? We’ve asked the GH editors and beauty enthusiasts to share their favourites, because you better believe we’ve all tried them all.
