I’ve always been an extremely hot sleeper. Even in the depths of winter, I have a fan blaring in my face as I drift off and it’s not uncommon for me to wake up in a pool of sweat in the middle of night. As you can imagine, it’s not the most pleasant of experiences, particularly during the summer months.
So, when I came across Modibodi’s cooling sleep pyjamas – I'm a huge fan of the brand’s period pants and swimwear – I had to give them a try. I also enlisted the help of four fellow sweaty sleepers and the GHI experts to put them through their paces.
Read on to find out more about this sweat-busting, heatwave-friendly sleep set, plus my honest review. Spoiler: they scored a mega 91/100 in our GHI panel test, and were named the best cooling pyjamas by our experts.
What is the ModiDry T-Shirt Sleep Set?
The ModiDry T-Shirt Sleep Set is a stylish two-piece, featuring a pastel blue tee and matching shorts. Made from natural fibres (63% organic cotton, 30% Tencel and 7% linen), it’s specifically designed to regulate your body temperature, cool the skin and absorb sweat, helping you get a peaceful night’s rest.
You can also pair it with some of our best cooling bedding to enhance your sleep set-up even further.
How does the ModiDry T-Shirt Sleep Set work?
The set is made from a bio-based, thermo-functional polymer, which delivers both instant cooling and evaporative cooling. In simple terms, it cools the body before you start to feel sweaty and continuously regulates your temperature, keeping you dry and comfortable all night long.
Additionally, the fabric is treated with a bio-based quick-dry treatment, which absorbs twice as much sweat, so you won’t wake up feeling hot and sticky.
How we test
The GHI enlisted a panel of sweaty sleepers (me included) to put the PJs through rigorous testing.
They slept in them for at least three weeks before reporting back on a variety of factors, including design, fit, comfort and performance. They noted how comfortable they were to sleep in, how well they absorbed sweat overnight and whether they helped them get a rejuvenating night’s sleep.
Back at the GHI, our experts conducted wash tests to check their size, shape and colour remained unchanged after laundering. We then analysed the feedback and awarded the pyjamas an overall score.
The GHI review: Do Modibodi’s cooling pyjamas work?
Scoring a nearly flawless 91/100, here’s how the sleep set went down with our testers...
Design and fit
Score: 4.1/5
Testers liked the oversized T-shirt and elasticated shorts combo, with its simple, fuss-free design and baby blue colourway. A couple of testers weren’t sure about the length of the shorts, but that comes down to individual preference. Personally, I’m not a fan of full-length PJs and loved the high-leg style as my legs felt free and unconstricted in bed.
The fit proved true to size, and everyone appreciated the wide variety of sizes available, ranging from XS to 6XL. The PJs also remained in tip-top condition and felt just as soft after several goes in the washing machine, with no shrinkage reported.
Comfort
Score: 4.5/5
They scored highly for comfort, with one tester saying, “these are hands-down the comfiest PJs I’ve owned.”
Panellists couldn’t get enough of the gloriously soft, lightweight fabric, which was cool to touch and just the right level of thickness. I have extremely sensitive skin, but I had no issues with the material, which felt lovely and smooth and caused no irritation.
Another popular feature was the stretchy waistband, which didn’t dig in, leave unwanted marks or feel restrictive, and the T-shirt was nice and loose around the armpits.
Performance
Score: 4.7/5
According to testers, the ModiDry Sleep Set lives up to its claims. The temperature-regulating fabric stopped them from overheating, leaving them to enjoy a calmer, drier night’s rest. "They truly kept me cooler,” said one panel member, while another commented: “It’s a great product for hot sleepers, I’d highly recommend.”
When things did get sweaty, the light fabric didn’t feel clammy or unpleasant, just slightly damp. As a result, everyone said they were able to snooze better.
My verdict
I’ve been wearing the set regularly for well over six months now and I can unequivocally say they’ve elevated my sleep. Although they’re not a magic pill, the PJs have made a huge difference to my night sweats, and I don't feel the need to blast the fan in my face when I’ve got them on.
I also rate their sweat-wicking abilities – they do an excellent job of absorbing perspiration, even in the summer months, and I always slip them in my suitcase when I'm travelling.
They’ve also maintained their quality and look the same as I when I first got them last year.
Whether you tend to run hot at night, you’re experiencing menopause-related hot flushes, you're trying to sleep through a heatwave, or you’re off on holiday somewhere hot, it’s worthing giving this sleep set a go.
