Good Housekeeping UK

No matter the occasion, flowers are a timeless way to show you care. So whether you can’t be with a loved one for their birthday and want to arrange a surprise knock at their door, are looking for a Mother's Day gift, or want to treat them to a show-stopping arrangement just because, we suggest a bouquet from one of our panel's best online flower deliver services.

These days, Google is awash with online florists vying for your business, making it tricky to choose a company you can trust. So, to help you decide, the Good Housekeeping Institute put 21 brands (and 138 bouquets) to the test, to find the best delivery services for all needs and budgets.

What's the best online florist?

In a hurry? These are our tried and tested favourites, but keep scrolling for the full reviews.

Want something a little different? Try the Good Housekeeping Institute's best plant delivery services or our favourite florists for the best letterbox flowers.

How to make flowers last longer

As well as using any provided flower food, there are plenty of steps you can take to help keep your flowers fresh for longer.

Firstly, look for bouquets that contain flowers still in bud, as this means they will arrive earlier in their lifecycle and you’ll be able to watch them come into bloom. When your flowers arrive, trim the stems by a couple of inches, cutting them at a diagonal angle – this helps them absorb as much water as possible. Then refresh the water every few days, and re-trim the stems by 1cm at the same time.

Before putting your flowers in your best vase, remove any leaves that will sit below the waterline. If left, they can go mouldy and cause the water to become discoloured.

Check accompanying care instructions, as they may contain guidance specific to your blooms. For example, roses are often sent with guard petals intact – these outer petals aren’t as vibrant as inner petals but protect the flowers in transit, and can be gently removed so your bouquet looks its best.

Lastly, keep them away from direct light and radiators to avoid them drying out prematurely.

How we test online flower delivery services

best flower delivery services how we test
    .

We only tested flower delivery services with nationwide delivery options, sending out over 130 bouquets to a panel of readers across the UK, from 21 different brands.

The panel rigorously judged each brand on the quality of its delivery service, as well as the look and freshness of the flowers from arrival to expiry. Afterwards, they shared their experience with us via a detailed questionnaire.

We also focused on these key areas.

    Ordering

At the Good Housekeeping Institute, we ordered a bouquet from each of the 21 services to assess their websites and ordering processes. The best ones were easy to navigate with strong imagery and clear product descriptions. Our experts considered the range of payment options and noted the selection of delivery options.

When these bouquets arrived, we also timed how long they remained fresh for (as pictured above). Our experts checked in on the flowers each day to see if they were blossoming or wilting and compared this to the brands' claims.

    Delivery service

To make our list, bouquets had to arrive safely, in good condition and on time. Our panel noted where flowers were left if they weren’t in when delivered, and shared their verdict on how effectively the packaging protected their flowers.

    Presentation

Our testers rated the “wow factor” of each bouquet on arrival, too. Clearly, this is subjective, but the overall effect – flowers and arrangement – had to get the thumbs up. They reported back on extra touches such as ribbons and care instructions. Plus, they judged how well the bouquet lived up to its marketing photos.

We also deliberately made a spelling mistake in our gift cards, to see whether they would be corrected by the service. Most weren’t amended, so re-read your message before completing your purchase!

    Best flower delivery service

    Bloom & Wild

    UK Approved(Esquire,Red,HB,GH,Country Living,Prima)
    Bloom & Wild

    Score: 93/100

    Our pick: The Bea, £27

Need-to-know: Bloom and Wild’s website is a dream to navigate, offering a seamless browsing and ordering experience. Its bouquets are just as good; they arrived safely and impressed testers by lasting (and looking beautiful) for two weeks. As a result, our panel said they would use the brand again and recommend it to friends and family.

Best bits: Luxury gifts can be added as thoughtful extras and there’s a chic line up of vases. Plus, the bouquets change according to what's in season, making it easier than ever to find the perfect gift – we're eyeing up the Liberty collection! Bloom and Wild is also now a B-Corp and has started tracking the carbon footprint of every stem in its bouquets, with the ambition to reduce emissions by seven per cent a year.

Downsides: The delivery options aren’t as extensive as some, and next-day delivery isn’t available for all bouquets due to their seasonality. But all our orders arrived on the day we’d selected, so it’s not an issue if you plan ahead. The care information provided is quite short and generic, but it does the trick at keeping the blooms fresh.

    Price range: £19 - £92

    Arena Flowers

    UK Approved(Esquire,Red,HB,GH,Country Living,Prima)
    Arena Flowers

    Score: 91/100

    Our pick: Raspberry Rapture, £30

Need-to-know: If you’re conscious about the environmental or social impact of your flowers, shopping with ethical florist Arena should ease your concerns. It claims to source all its flowers from Fairtrade-certified farms and vetted ethical suppliers, while two trees are planted for every bouquet ordered, to offset emissions. There’s no single-use plastic in the packaging either.

Best bits: Our panel loved their deliveries, and all said they would use Arena again; bouquets arrived well-packed and watered, with a nice mixture of flowers and buds ready to bloom. Flowers stayed fresh for over 10 days too.

Downsides: There aren’t as many filters on the website as others, making it trickier to find a bouquet for your specific needs. Plus, you can’t add physical gifts – only a gift card or personalised note.

    Price range: £28 - £95

    Interflora

    UK Approved(Esquire,Red,HB,GH,Country Living,Prima)
    Interflora

    Score: 90/100

    Our pick: Handcrafted Bouquet, £42

Need-to-know: Working with its national and international network of florists, every bouquet ordered from Interflora is made and delivered locally. As a result, there’s more variation in the final product than many of the other services on our list. However, all our panel received beautiful arrangements and said they would recommend the service to others.

Best bits: The brand delivers far and wide, with some bouquets available the very same day when you order before 3pm, which is handy for any last-minute gifts or just because, and our panel said they arrived well-packaged and protected. We also like the look of the new trending bouquets, which combine dried and seasonal fresh flowers.

Downsides: The website doesn’t have as many filters as some, but there are some bouquets available that cater to allergies and different tastes, including lily and rose-free options.

    Price range: £37 - £500
    Letterbox options: No
    Subscription available: Yes
Delivery options: Next, same day and future deliveries. Delivery passes are also available for reduced costs.

    Best for London deliveries

    Flower Station

    UK Approved(Esquire,Red,HB,GH,Country Living,Prima)
    Flower Station

    Score: 90/100

    Our pick: Princess Izabella, £49.95

Need-to-know: Specialising in generous, hand-tied bouquets, Flower Station’s colour and flower species filters will help you find the perfect blooms. You can add a wide range of gifts too, from luxury chocolates to jewellery and balloons. On test, we found ordering straightforward and our panellists were delighted with their rose-filled deliveries; they all arrived well-packaged on their nominated day.

Best bits: The bouquet we ordered to the Good Housekeeping Institute lasted a good five days beyond its advertised seven-day lifespan. And if you’re based in London, the delivery options are second to none – it’s available around the clock.

Downsides: Outside the capital, you’ll have to plan ahead as deliveries are limited to Tuesday-Saturdays. Most of the stems were free from damage on arrival, but one rose in our lab bouquet looked dead and had to be binned. That one aside, the flowers were excellent.

    Bunches

    UK Approved(Esquire,Red,HB,GH,Country Living,Prima)
    Bunches

    Score: 89/100

    Our pick: Secret Garden, £31.75

Need-to-know: Bunches offers next day delivery, seven days a week for just £3.99, so pick this brand if you need to get out of a sticky last-minute gift situation. The website has filters for occasion, type of flower and colour, and there’s a section for dried and pet-friendly flowers, too.

Best bits: Our panel was pleased with the way their flowers looked, and we liked how the stems were long enough to customise the height of the flowers. Our bouquets all matched the colourways, size and arrangement shown online. You can also earn discounts by collecting ‘Posy Points’ with your purchases.

Downsides: After removing the hydration pack from the stems, some looked slightly browned; however, this didn’t concern us too much as a little damage is to be expected in transit. There’s only one design for the complimentary greeting card but there are plenty of designs available for an extra £2.25.

    Price range: £15 - £49.75

    UK Approved(Esquire,Red,HB,GH,Country Living,Prima)
    FlowerBx

    Score: 88/100

Our pick: Rococo Parrot Tulip, £60 (25 stems)

Need-to-know: If you want to send a bouquet celebrating their favourite bloom, then FlowerBx is the delivery service to turn to, as it specialises in luxury, single-variety arrangements. You can filter your search according to species and even by stem size if you’ve got a particularly tall vase you’re keen to fill. Every gorgeous bouquet is also available in several sizes – the berries are top of our wishlist.

Best bits: The flowers received matched the image on the website perfectly, from the colour and size to the arrangement. Our bouquets all arrived on time too (and had a real ‘wow’ factor). They came wrapped in a hydration pack that was easy to remove without damaging any of the stems.

Downsides: There are some restrictions for delivery outside of London; enter your address before browsing and the site will filter the bouquets that are eligible, to avoid disappointment.

    Haute Florist

    UK Approved(Esquire,Red,HB,GH,Country Living,Prima)
    Haute Florist

    Score: 88/100

    Our pick: The Venice, £60

Need-to-know: Haute sells real head-turners, from the hand-tied bouquets to its hat box offerings. Our panellists were delighted with their deliveries, and our experts found the website easy to navigate. Plus, you can order up to six months in advance – perfect if you’re a planner.

Best bits: The packaging was impressive, and the bouquet looked exactly as advertised on the website. We also appreciated that the orchids came with their own flower food to keep them looking their best – which it did, as they lasted 14 days in our lab. Haute also has a built-in spell checker so you don’t have to worry about any spelling mistakes making their way onto the gift card.

Downsides: Some rose stems arrived a little wilted but perked up again after 48 hours and, while the flowers were long-lasting, the additional foliage began to soften after a few days. Removing the greenery still left us with plenty of bright blooms though.

    Prestige Flowers

    Score: 87/100

Our pick: Rose and Freesia, £34.99

Need-to-know: Prestige’s bouquets looked as good on our doorstops as they did online, arriving securely packaged to prevent any damage to the buds. The website has lots of filters to browse through, whether you’re looking for birthday gifts or seasonal blooms, and we found our way around the website easily too. You can even record a free video or voice message to send to your loved one to make the delivery extra special.

Best bits: Prestige often has lots of great offers available, so you can find the right bouquet at a price that suits your budget. We also liked the selection of charity bouquets, with a donation made to Cancer Research UK for every bouquet sold.

Downsides: Overall, the website was easy to navigate, but it felt messier than other services we’ve tried. There was also no longevity claim with the flowers, but our bunch lasted over 12 days.

Need-to-know: For £10, you can join Appleyard privilege and receive free tracked delivery for a whole year. You’ll make your money back in just over two orders – ideal if you frequently buy blooms. The flowers are well-worth sending too; our panel commented on their stunning, balanced bouquets.

Best bits: We liked the seasonal selection of blooms on offer, and some recipients enjoyed theirs for 17 days, well past the seven-day longevity claim. Rest assured, they also arrived safely with detailed care instructions and plant food.

Downsides: There are plenty of gifts to choose from alongside your flowers, including some lovely hampers. However, you can’t filter by allergen or dietary requirements and the ingredients aren’t listed on the website.

    Freddie's Flowers

    UK Approved(Esquire,Red,HB,GH,Country Living,Prima)
    Freddie's Flowers

    Score: 86/100

    Our pick: Lark Ascending, £35

Need-to-know: One of the first to offer a flower subscription, Freddie’s Flowers is ideal if you’re looking for a gift that keeps on giving, or to treat yourself to a regular dose of uplifting florals. The subscription service is flexible, so you can pause, stop and restart as suits. And now you can send one-off bouquets to lucky loved ones too, with different, seasonal designs available to choose from each month.

Best bits: These bouquets spark joy from the moment you unbox them. The flowers have long stems and are carefully packaged in recyclable packaging, so they arrive undamaged and have lengthy lifespans (over two weeks for some testers).

You can add on a free gift note at checkout and the card designs are beautiful. We also liked that you could select a message template depending on the occasion. The messages are short and sweet (but well thought out) and will do the job if you’re struggling to find the right words!

Downsides: There’s no option to purchase gifts separately so you have to buy flowers and add these on during checkout. The flowers didn’t arrive with a hydration pack either, but this isn’t too much of an issue as they still looked fresh once unwrapped.

    Price range: £25 - £75
    Letterbox options: N/A
    Subscription available: Yes
Delivery options: For subscriptions, choose classic or showstopper and then the frequency: weekly, fortnightly or every three weeks. For one-off gifts, next day costs £5, but otherwise, it's free.

    Serenata Flowers

    Score: 86/100

    Our pick: Spring Skies, £52.99

Need-to-know: With an affordable selection of bouquets, Serenata sells something for everyone. The website has a good array of filters too, letting you search according to colour, type, occasion and more.

Best bits: We loved how large and clear the photos were on the website, making it easy to see exactly what would be arriving at your loved one’s door. There’s also a handy list of the exact quantities of each bloom in the bouquet.

Downsides: Our flowers were slightly damaged on arrival – they’d been placed upside down in the box, causing some bruising to the petals. Once we’d pruned the stems though, the majority looked good, and the arrangement lasted for 12 days.

Best bits: The flowers arrived undamaged as they were tied securely in the box. They also came with plant food and clear care instructions that helped our bouquet outlive its seven-day freshness claim.

Need-to-know: With links to florists in 17 countries around the world, Eflorist offers ways to reach loved ones as far afield as Australia. And wherever you’re ordering to, the site tells you the earliest date each bouquet can be delivered, and they’re all fairly affordable.

Best bits: Each bouquet is available in three different sizes, giving you the flexibility to edit your order according to your budget. On arrival, the box appeared damaged, but our stems were unaffected, looking fresh and blooming within two to three days.

Downsides: A bit of preparation is needed between receiving and getting the blooms into a vase – the roses had leaves that needed trimming, and we spent a while perfecting the arrangement. For an aspiring florist though, the chance to curate their own display may be a bonus.

Need-to-know: A one-stop gift shop, Funky Pigeon boasts 70 bouquets for you to choose from and lets you send flowers at the same time as personalised cards and gifts. The website allows you to filter by occasion and has a whole selection under £30.

Best bits: The website was very easy to navigate and filter and there’s a large range of gifts and cards to choose from to make your flower delivery even more special. The character limit on the cards varies, but we had no issues with writing a well-thought-out message so there should be plenty of space for your well wishes.

Downsides: The flowers arrived a little squashed and one rosebud had snapped off. The bouquet didn’t have a hydration pack, but it did come with care instructions to help keep your flowers looking their best.

    M&S Flower Shop

    Score: 77/100

Our pick: Roses, Lisianthus & Antirrhinum Bright Bouquet, £50

Need to know: With the ability to filter by colour, flower type and occasion all in one page, we found the website a breeze to navigate and quickly found a suitable bouquet within our price range. M&S sources its stems from trusted and sustainable growers and offers free next day delivery across its range, making it a good option for last-minute bouquets.

Best bits: Our flowers arrived with a hydration pack that was loose enough to remove without damaging any stems. Buds bloomed after two days, and the stems were long enough to customise for our selected vase. The arrangement looked as advertised online and lasted for 12 days, offering plenty of time to admire our lovely blooms.

Downsides: You can add a free gift message, but the character limit is restricted to 200, so there isn’t a huge amount of freedom for creative writing. Some of our panel also found their bouquets weren’t left in the agreed safe space.

Our pick: The Best Friend, £30

Need to know: Known for its personalised cards, you can make their delivery even more of a lovely surprise by adding one of Moonpig’s vibrant bouquets and gifts.

Best bits: The website is easy to navigate with a wide array of filters, including species, colour and one for pet-friendly blooms. Helpfully, you can also order multiple gifts and send them to different addresses in one order. Our panel’s bouquets arrived on the correct day and were well packaged. Moonpig has also collaborated with various brands for more high-end gifts, including Arena Flowers, which is listed further up, and Cath Kidston. So, it has more choice than ever.

Downsides: While you can select different sized bouquets on the website, the pictures don’t change, making it tricky to know how large the arrangement will be when it turns up on the doorstep. How can I send flowers to the UK from abroad?

Sending flowers to friends and family in another country isn’t as difficult as you may think. That’s because lots of the florists are set up to make this possible – Bloom and Wild, for example, has a dedicated guide on how to arrange bouquet deliveries in the UK if you’re shopping internationally.

Delivery services that work with local florists – such as Interflora – are another great way to support small businesses wherever your lucky recipient lives.

What is the best app to order flowers from?

Not all the brands on our list have an app you can shop from, but lots do, which means you can pick one from our list on your phone or tablet, and rest assured that your loved one will receive an arrangement just as fabulous as if you had shopped via your browser.

    Bloom and Wild
, our best flower delivery service, has an app that operates in much the same way as its website, making it our top recommendation if you're looking to send a bouquet in a few quick clicks.

The verdict on flower delivery services

Our best flower delivery service is Bloom & Wild. The online florist has a stand-out selection of bouquets, which change with the seasons, making it easy to find something for everyone, no matter their favourite blooms.

But, if you can’t find what you’re looking for in your price range, Bunches has a good array of affordable posies, available via next-day delivery, seven days a week.

And if you want bouquets at your door (or a loved one’s) week-in-week-out, we like Freddie’s Flowers subscription service of seasonal and cut-to-order arrangements.
