There isn't really an exciting way to talk about USB-C hubs, but these are gadgets that quickly become essentials.
As modern devices get thinner and thinner each year, you've probably noticed that it doesn't matter whether you're working from a laptop, a tablet or a 2-in-1, you probably don't have all the ports you need to hand.
Our devices used to come with every possible jack, socket and connector we could want, from an HDMI (for connecting to a monitor or TV) and an Ethernet (for high-speed internet) to an SD card slot (for offloading files from a compact camera). Laptops of only a few years ago used to have more old-fashioned USB ports than we'd ever need for the flash storage drives we used to carry around.
Since then, though, things have become far more minimalist. Nowadays, you're lucky to have a couple of USB-C ports on the side of your laptop.
That comes with its positives and negatives. Devices are slimmer and lighter, but they can be a little bit less useful. Need to connect a hard drive, display or USB stick at the same time as you're charging? Want to connect wired headphones to your iPad? Or just to get your holiday photos off a memory card? Too often, it's harder than it should be.
You may be looking at getting a dongle or two to keep in your laptop backpack, but it's worth considering the best USB-C hubs that put a whole load of the most essential ports in one place.
