All the stars were lined up and looking fabulous to walk the Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning red carpet on Wednesday (14 May), but there was one standout look that caught our eye. Andie MacDowell is famous for her long, bouncy silver curls but on the night, she underwent a hair transformation for a drastically different look.
For the event, Andie’s locks were smoothed out and swept up to give the illusion of a boyish crop hair ’do, complete with a soft side fringe. The hairstyle matched the tailored tuxedo she opted for, creating a stylishly androgynous look. An oversized bow tie and lapels along with a pair of glittering heels kept the otherwise masculine ensemble feeling softer and more feminine – striking a perfect balance.
‘Andie’s hair is the perfect accompaniment to her sharp trouser suit and it marks a striking change for someone who’s made flowing ‘romcom curls’ her signature look,’ says GH beauty director Lynne. ‘The faux chop is also a trending look right now. While some stars are taking their hair shorter for real with stunning effect – Lily Collins being a prime example – others are choosing to fake it instead.
‘Last week alone, Nicole Kidman flirted with a pixie ‘cut’ at the Met Gala, which later turned out to be a wig, and Frankie Bridge showed off a new micro fringe at the Baftas that her hairdresser revealed was a clip-in.’
Lynne added that, ‘the faux-do is a great low-commitment way to try a new style, especially if you’re nervous about making a big change and worried you might regret cutting off your hair. However, Andie looks great with her Cannes ‘crop’, and could pull off pretty much anything with her bone structure.’
And it seems there was one A-lister in particular who was also big fan of Andie's original new look – Eva Longoria. Walking the red carpet alongside Andie, Eva cheered her on as Andie had fun during paparazzi shots, even having a little dance and throwing out peace signs.
The premiere for the latest Mission: Impossible sequel took place at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in France and saw the stars out in force to support the screening, including cast members Tom Cruise and Hannah Waddingham.
For the occasion, Hannah looked stunning in a strapless Elie Saab gown embellished with floral sequin embroidery. She added strappy heels and a pair of statement shades to accessorise the look in the South of France sunshine.
