Need a January pick-me-up? Don’t we all right now! Fortunately, Daisy May Cooper, aka comedy legend, is here to provide it. The actress and writer is bringing us a new series of her BAFTA-winning show, Am I Being Unreasonable? in which she also stars - and you might notice that Daisy has undergone a bit of a transformation since the first series.
Daisy has revealed that she lost a whopping 10 stone between filming the first and second series, and she says she owes it to adopting the Keto Diet, which involves eating high-fat, low-carb meals. In fact, her transformation has been so incredible that even Daisy didn't recognise herself in the first series!
"It was sort of a bit mad, because since we filmed the last series and this series, I've had my lips done, and lost about 10 stone, so in the flashbacks, we were just killing ourselves laughing. Because the two versions of me don’t look like the same people!" says Daisy.
If you didn't see the first series, which aired in 2022, you might have heard about it. 3.2 million people tuned in to watch the first episode when it aired on BBC One and it became an instant smash hit. It also brought us so much joy (see also: horror, hilarity, heartbreak) that we’ve been eagerly awaiting more episodes ever since. Finally, the moment has arrived, as the new series kicks off THIS Wednesday.
Here's everything you need to know about the new series...
What will happen in Am I Being Unreasonable? series 2?
For those who haven't seen the show, it's a somewhat twisted comedy which follows Nic (played by Daisy, who has written and stars in it), a mum stuck in a depressing marriage, while grieving a loss she can’t share with anyone. Only her son, Ollie, keeps her going; but when Jen (Selin Hizli) arrives in town, her life is lit up with laughter, and her dark secret starts to bubble up.
Series 2 picks up right where series 1 left off. Kicked out of the family home, Nic is reduced to sharing a caravan with Jen, her now less-than-trustworthy best friend. "Shunned at the school gates and cast as the witch at the school re-enactment, Nic is experiencing hallucinations," reads the official synopsis. "Or is someone playing tricks on her?"
"I'm not really acting. I mean, it is just my life," Daisy says of her role as Nic. "I remember it was really funny as I had a mum come up to me in the playground and she said, ‘Oh my god. How did you write that character? She's such a narcissist.’ I thought: ‘It's based on me.’ Yeah. I mean, it's not, it's not hard playing Nic."
Alongside Daisy, Selin and Lenny reprising their roles, an exciting roster of guest stars are lined up to join the cast in series 2, including Daisy's real-life brother and This Country co-creator, co-writer and co-star, Charlie Cooper. This marks the first time the siblings have reunited on screen since their BAFTA-winning This Country - and it can only be a very good thing.
