Sound intriguing? Here's everything we know about the series so far, including you can watch it...
What is The Survivors about?
The Survivors is set in the fictional Tasmanian town of Evelyn Bay, a place where "everyone doesn’t just know each other’s names, they know all their secrets". In the show we meet young couple Kieran and Mia who return to their hometown with their family to be with Kieran’s "ailing father and emotionally distant mother."
Fifteen years earlier, Kieran's life had changed forever when two people from his town drowned and a girl went missing. Then, when he returns, the body of a young woman is found on the beach and "the guilt that still haunts him resurfaces". With the discovery of the body, "the town is once again rocked by tragedy and the investigation of her death threatens to reveal long-held secrets, the truth about the missing girl, and a killer among them."
The plot is drenched in secrets and loss, with the stories people have told themselves - and each other - in order to move forward, starting to unravel. According to the showrunner Tony Ayres, "every role has a climactic moment," at some point throughout the six-part series.
“It’s a family melodrama disguised as a murder mystery," he added via Netflix. "Because the things that are really at its heart are things like a son wanting his mother’s love and the mother who just cannot afford to give it because her whole world might fall apart.”
