For those keeping a keen eye on ITV’s Trigger Point – aka Line Of Duty but with more explosives – you’ll be glad to know that filming has officially wrapped for the third season! Vicky McClure, who plays bomb disposal operative Lana Washington, shared a heartfelt Instagram post on wrap day.
‘HAPPY ‘TRIGGER POINT’ 3 WRAP DAY!!!🎬❤️🔥🎥’ the post read, before the actor thanked the cast and crew for making it her favourite season to date.
‘Not everyone who worked on TP3 is in this pic but every crew & cast member has made it my favourite TP to date! We went into it wanting to make it the best one yet for you lovely people watching, that comes when everyone’s collaborative, passionate, kind to each other and no egos in sight. A very happy crew! 🥰’ the caption read.
‘Thank you SO much everyone, I’ve loved every single day of this shoot with you all.’
As for when fans can expect to catch the exciting new instalment, Vicky wrote: ‘Can’t wait for you all to watch their hard work and talents hit the @itv screen! 📺❤️🔥 (no idea when that is! 🙃)’ Not much to go on, but nevertheless, the countdown begins now!
To celebrate her birthday, Vicky also teased a sneak peek behind the scenes of season three with a photo of her in costume – swinging from a tree on set.
She captioned it: ‘Thanks to everyone for your birthday wishes! 💗🥳🥰 And to the best team at Trigger Point for making it real special! Off to the pub! 🍻’
Earlier this year, Vicky also shared that she’d been paid a visit by a very special guest. While filming the latest scenes, Vicky had an unexpected addition to her team as The Queen stopped by for a special visit. To celebrate ITV's 70th birthday, Her Majesty joined the cast and crew on set and sat in during a live take.
Photographs and footage of her visit show The Queen shaking hands with Vicky McClure and getting involved with the camera and sound team during a tense chase scene. It seems the series has a new Royal fan...
While we (and the Queen) await the arrival of the new series, here's everything we know about what to expect...
How did Trigger Point series 2 end?
The second series, which aired in January last year, averaged 8.1m viewers and saw Lana go up against an anarchist group known as ‘The Wave’, who sought to bring down the current power structures in society with their campaign of terror. Sound dangerous? It certainly was.
If you haven't seen the show, we won't spoil it, but we will tell you that, thankfully, Lana lived to tell the tale. The question is, will Lana and her team survive another series? The jury's still out.
What will happen in Trigger Point series 3?
Executive producer Jed Mercurio (Line of Duty) has promised plenty of "twists, turns, bangs and blasts" from series 3, while Vicky has promised to make it even more thrilling.
"Having had such a positive response to the previous two series, we want to make the next series even more exciting, keep everyone on the edge of their seats whilst getting to know even more about the brilliant characters in the show," says Vicky.
It sounds promising - so what's in store for the plot? Comprising of six episodes, the new series will see Lana Washington and her team of bomb disposal officers (EXPOs) investigate a bomb threat, which soon reveals itself to be the start of a sinister vendetta: someone is targeting individuals and demanding revenge.
Working alongside the Police Counterterrorism Unit, the Bomb Disposal Squad must race against time to find the bomber before they claim their next victim. So what will be their fate? We'll have to tune in to find out.
