She may have missed out on taking home a BAFTA, but Stacey Solomon still turned heads with a heartfelt red-carpet look that has us all rethinking what’s hanging in our wardrobes and remembering that sustainable fashion can be as glamorous as it is meaningful.

Nominated for Best Entertainment Performance and Best Factual Entertainment for her hit show Sort Your Life Out, the queen of decluttering chose to wear something truly personal, upcycling the wedding dress she wore to marry Joe Swash in 2022.

Taking to Instagram before the awards ceremony, Stacey revealed the personal reason behind her choice. ‘It makes me so sad that this is my favourite dress and I’ve only ever worn it once,’ she said, sharing a behind-the-scenes video of her seamstress working her magic to create a dreamy, modern look. The result? A sheer playsuit that retained the original bodice, paired with delicate shorts and a flowing sheer overskirt complete with a thigh-high slit.

The choice to recycle such a meaningful garment comes as no surprise to fans of her home organisation hacks and eco-conscious ethos. ‘Wearing it once feels like a travesty to me,’ she wrote. ‘I wanted to get her out of the box and take her out on another special day.’

Styled by her longtime friend Faye Sawyer, the transformation is breathtaking. ‘Thank you @fayesawyerstylist & Issy for transforming my wedding dress into something so special and beautiful,’ Stacey wrote online. ‘I love you, girls. Thank you, Penny, for making me feel so beautiful as always.’

Although Stacey lost out to comedian Joe Lycett in both categories, fans and followers agree she was a clear winner on the red carpet – and in the upcycling department.

Her choice was a reminder that sentimental fashion doesn’t need to stay boxed up. Who says you can’t wear your wedding dress again?
