Now you see it, now you don’t! For today’s great beauty mystery, may we present the curious case of Dianne Buswell’s disappearing fringe: cut in on Friday and missing in action by Sunday night! The Strictly Come Dancing champion shared her fab-u-lous full-fringed makeover from the Larry King salon chair, then baffled the BAFTAs by making it vanish for her red carpet appearance. How’s that for a magic trick?
While some hair makeovers on BAFTA night were the work of temporary clip-in extensions, from Alex Jones’ flowing Cinderella transformation to Frankie Bridges’ faux micro-fringe, Dianne’s cut was undoubtedly the real deal.
She posted an Instagram video showing the entire transformation, including the moment her stylist Vicky Demetiou chopped in a swishy, eye-skimming fringe. ‘Today, we decided to cut in a fringe,’ Dianne shared. ‘I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while and I just hadn’t had the time to go in and get it done, so I’m pleased we finally did it.’
The makeover also involved getting rid of what Dianne calls her ‘mullet’. She explained: ‘As you can see, my hair is quite disconnected. It’s actually gotten so long, but the sides just don’t seem to grow as quickly. So basically, we use Great Lengths extensions to put a couple of rows into the sides so that kind of mullet look is finally gone. It’s actually incredible.’
With the new extensions trimmed and shaped, Dianne can be seen twirling happily out of the salon: ‘The fringe is back ☺️ oh, how I have missed her.’ The makeover even got the ultimate seal of approval from the Queen of Fringes herself, Claudia Winkleman, who gave Dianne’s post a ‘like’.
In a follow-up post, the professional dancer shared a showreel of possible BAFTA hairstyles and asked her followers to help her choose which one to wear for the big night. The overwhelming vote was towards the updo options, with her Strictly co-star Katya Jones urging her towards an intricate high bun. ‘Option 1!!! Go get it girl!’
But on the big night itself? Dianne had vetoed the majority opinion and gone with her signature red hair worn down.
Bafflingly, her new fringe appeared to have disappeared overnight, although if you look closely, you can see it’s been cleverly pinned back to leave it near-invisible. No mean feat when you have a full fringe like Dianne’s.
Obviously, Dianne is a perfect 10 with either style, so we’re sure she’s not suffering from haircut regret and will be giving her gorgeous new fringe a whirl on the red carpet very soon.
