What would you do if the closest person to you went missing? It’s a terrifying thought and one that’s the subject of Netflix’s latest psychological thriller, Dead Letters. An adaptation of Caite Dolan-Leach’s expertly plotted book of the same name, the series follows a woman whose twin, Zelda, has seemingly been murdered. It will take us on a twisted hunt for the truth and, with a mind-boggling mystery at the heart of it, it’s a show we think Harlan Coben fans will love.
You see, Zelda (played by Lucy Hale who stars as both twins), appears to have known she was in trouble ahead of her disappearance and she’s left her sister, Ava, a number of cryptic "dead letters". They reveal a series of devastating (and rather dark) secrets - but will they help her find her sister, and is her Zelda really dead after all?
Ahead of the show’s arrival on Netflix, here’s everything you need to know about the new series, including the plot, cast and when you can watch it…
What is Dead Letters about?
Based on the bestselling novel by Caite Dolan-Leach. the series will focus on a pair of identical twin sisters: Ava and Zelda, played by Lucy Hale. When Ava, who has run away to Paris, returns home to the family vineyard in the wake of Zelda's sudden death, she must find out who murdered her beloved twin.
It seems Zelda had become somewhat of a "different" person in Ava’s absence - or at least different to the twin Ava knew. It turns out Zelda also knew she was in danger before she was apparently murdered and she left a series of letters behind containing clues about her disappearance. As Ava embarks on a twisted scavenger hunt for the truth, she also unveils some harrowing truths of her own - but will they lead her to her sister? We'll have to tune in to find out.
Who's starring in Dead Letters?
As it stands, Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars) is Dead Letters’ only confirmed cast member. She’ll take on a double role as the twin sisters at the centre of the series. We'd expect news of more cast members to arrive soon however, so watch this space for more details as we have them.
Is the book Dead Letters is based on any good?
Yes – when Caite Dolan-Leach's debut thriller was released in 2017, fans went mad for the brilliantly twisty plot, reminiscent of Harlan Coben’s famous mystery novels. It’s been called "perfectly plotted" and described as "a sharp, wrenching tale" and "a dazzling mystery". Here's hoping the TV series is just as good.
How can I watch Dead Letters?
Netflix hasn’t yet shared a release date for Dead Letters, but given that the streamer has only just announced the series for development, we may have a while to wait before it arrives on our screens. As soon as we have a confirmed release date, we’ll share it here. In the meantime, you can check out our pick of other brilliant shows that are available to watch now here.
